Thyme Medicinal Benefits
Thyme is great for coughs and colds. When added to food it can act as a great digestive laxative in addition to boosting the immune system. Thyme is awesome in fighting fungal infections, pnemonia and asthma. This wondrous plant proves beneficial when soothing insect bites, eczema, athlete's foot, and ringworm.
Thyme Immune-Boosting Soup
At this point, one may pose the question what is this plants' secret power? Thyme is enriched with thymol, great for combating fungus and bacteria. When this super power plant is combined with flavonoids, it can also relieve muscle spasms and mental and physical fatigue. Ingredients (6-8 Servings)
3 cups roughly chopped onion
a little olive oil
2 cups finely grated potato
1 1/2 litres good chicken stock
1 cup pearl barley, soaked overnight
2 cups finely chopped Clery, leaves included
1 small red chili, finely chopped and seeds removed (or 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper)
Juice of 2 lemons
2 teaspoons finely grated lemon zest
1/2 cup fresh thyme leaves and flowers
Sea salt to taste
Recipes (6-8 Servings)
Fry the onions in the oil until they start to brown, add the grated potatoes and stir-fry until they start to turn golden. Add all the other ingredients and simmer with the lid on until everything is tender and the soup is tasty. Serve steaming hot with crusty brown bread.
